A Note from Dale Powers Color Guard Coordinator of WGIRule 8.1 of the WGI rule book is wrong. This year the WGI steering committee has decided that T&P judges working at WGI events will not need the Contest Administrator to sign off on penalties. When I presented this to the steering committee it was because I feel if you are good enough to judge for WGI you should know the rules both in print and in spirit. That being said, we don't want to be over zealous and do anything that would call the show. However, a penalty is a penalty. You have two choices if there is a penalty. Give a warning or the penalty. There should never be a situation when a rule is violated when a penalty or warning is not issued. In each of the last 3 years we have had units show up at regionals, receive a penalty, and then we find out that same penalty was not enforced at a prior WGI event.
At WGI events from the time a unit is given the go ahead to cross the interval time line and begin to set up, the T&P judge starts the clock and at 90 seconds cues the announcer. The 90 seconds is for A & Open units. We give 2 minutes for world units. You might want to share this with your units and maybe incorporate this process so when your units travel they are not surprised by this process.
Thanks,
Dale Powers
